Busting Myths About Chiropractic Care

When I tell people I’m a Charlotte chiropractor, it’s always interesting to see the reactions I receive. People have many different opinions when it comes to the validity of chiropractic care and whether it actually achieves what it claims to achieve.

As a schooled Charlotte chiropractor who has been in the profession for many years, and as someone who has received chiropractic adjustments herself, I can attest to the effectiveness of chiropractic care—not just for pain management, but for many chronic ailments that Americans today are suffering. As someone who was in and out of doctors offices throughout childhood with respiratory issues, ear infections, and chronic sinus infections, I can testify to the effectiveness of chiropractic care. Once I began receiving adjustments, my life changed. I began to notice a huge difference in my overall health and quality of life and no longer needed medications to feel better.

A story like mine might be difficult to believe if you’ve never experienced the benefits of Charlotte chiropractic treatment for yourself, as are the stories of many of my patients. I wanted to write this post to outline a few of the common myths people associate with chiropractors and to shed some light on why they exist and what’s really true when it comes to chiropractic care.

Myth #1: “Chiropractic is quackery.” Many people are very skeptical about chiropractic care, perhaps because they’ve had a bad experience with a Charlotte chiropractor in the past. Maybe you were promised a fix that you never received or that only lasted a short time before you had to spend more money to get “fixed” again. Or maybe you’ve just heard the saying “chiropractors are quacks” from other people who have had negative experiences and you believed it without going to see one yourself. Some believe that because chiropractors don’t go to school as long as medical doctors, their education must not be legitimate. Whatever the case, the history of “chiropractors as quacks” stems back to an effort made by the American Medical Association to destroy the chiropractic profession. Check out the video below to learn more:

Myth #2: “Chiropractors are all the same.” Not all chiropractors are created equal. Many chiropractors in Charlotte, for example, focus adjustments for pain management or joint realignment, but they may not understand or believe in using chiropractic care for the treatment of other ailments. At Queen City Health Center, we have a holistic approach to chiropractic care, which means that in addition to spinal adjustments, we encourage our patients to improve their health through nutrition and lifestyle changes.

Myth #3: “I’m not in pain so I don’t need to see a chiropractor.” Contrary to popular belief, chiropractic care is not just for pain management. As one of the most dedicated family chiropractors Charlotte NC has ever seen, I can attest to the value of chiropractic treatments for many different ailments, including asthma, ear infections, chronic illness, and autoimmune disease. I have adjusted patients of all ages and backgrounds, from babies, to seniors, and professional athletes, and any one of my patients will tell you how much of a difference they’ve seen since implementing this form of holistic healthcare.

Myth #4: “I can’t afford to see a chiropractor.” My answer to this is, “can you afford to get cancer?” If your answer is “no,” then I assure you that you most certainly can afford to see a chiropractor. In fact, I’d argue that you can’t afford NOT to! A holistic Charlotte chiropractor can help you save tons of money in the long run on medical bills, prescription drugs, and expensive lifestyle choices that you may not even know are hurting your health. Also, many chiropractors, like myself, work directly with insurance companies. At Queen City Health Center, we don’t stop there. We work directly with our patients, taking your budget and needs into consideration, to put together a long-term plan that will be much more effective from a holistic perspective and not just another temporary fix.
